We’ve been a bit slow on updates, but we’re getting back on schedule. Between getting to every NHRA and IHRA National event along with select shows and other races in between, it can get a little hectic. Enough excuses.

In Columbus at the NHRA races, Larry Dixon tacked a few more points on to his lead over Doug Kalitta as did Tony Pedregon when he and John Force had a pedaling contest to the finish line. Tony got the win when the boss-man went over the centerline. Frank Manzo also chalked up a win with his Pro Mag fired alcohol flopper.

8.5 Wires in Black!
The MSD Super Conductor wire is now available in black! We’re updating our Dual Hemi Wire Set, PN 31559 to include one set of red wires and one set of black wires. The spark plug boot that fits the PN 8142 44 Amp Coil is now available in packs of 2, 9 or 50 as PN 3323, 8847 and 34575 respectively.

NHRA was able to pull out their event at the Thunder Valley Nats in Bristol, Tennessee. Brandon Bernstein, the ‘rookie’, pulled out his third win of the season over Doug Herbert. In Funny Car, Del Worsham won over Whit Bazemore who had his hands full pedaling the car down the track. Two of the fastest Pro Modifieds lined up in the finals for an exciting race. Mitch Stott got out first but got loose and crossed the centerline as Fred Hahn ran to a 6.231 at 226 mph.

The MSD Tech Support Trailer will be at the NHRA Nats in Commerce, Georgia, this coming weekend - come by and see us!

Just a reminder - the MSD Programmable Launch Control, PN 7561, is not legal in NHRA and IHRA.

With the racing back in action, it’s been plenty busy around the Pro Mag group at MSD! We’re at every NHRA National event, most IHRA races and have people going to boat drags and sprint car races. We still manage to get some new product out the door though.

Pro Mag 44 Kill Solenoid, PN 8134One item is the new Pro Mag 44 Kill Solenoid, PN 8134. This heavy duty solenoid will kill the power of the Pro Mag 44 and is built to handle the tire shake and vibrations of Top Fuel racing. The photos show the internals of the Switch.

Pro Mag Controller, PN 8973
Though the NHRA and IHRA banned the use of the Pro Mag Controller, they’re still available and are great for testing when trying different timing changes. These are in stock and ready to ship.

Programmable Launch Rev Limiter, PN 7561
If you are using an Electronic Points Box that has a built-in rev limiter, you can take advantage of the Programmable Launch Limiter. This Control plugs into the rev limiter and allows you to program an rpm ramp based on time to help get the tires planted and rolling.

PROTOTYPE 66
The response to our Pro Mag 66 prototype has been overwhelming! It’s great to know that we have the support of racers for an even more powerful magneto. Currently this project is still in the early R&D stages and will not be available any time this season. We’ll keep you apprised of any major break throughs.

Top Fuel TeamMSD was greeted to a surprise visit from the Fram/Prestone Top Fuel Team of John Smith and Rhonda Hartman-Smith. The crew unloaded the cars so everyone at MSD could see the products we build every day in use. This is especially cool when you’re talking about Top Fuel Dragsters!

Both dragsters rely on MSD Pro Mag 44 Kits, Pro Mag Timing Control and two Six Shooter Retard Controls. Thanks again for taking the time to stop by and good luck in Houston this weekend!

Pro Mag Techs Here’s our Pro Mag techs with Jennifer from the Hartman-Smith Race Team!

NHRA
The NHRA invaded Firebird Raceway in Chandler Arizona over the weekend and the new LED lights are the buzz as races were won on the holeshot. In Top Fuel it was Brandon Bernstein nabbing his first National Event win over Larry Dixon - both running Pro Mag 44 systems. This also happens to be the track that Kenny won his first TF title. It was a side-by-side race as The Bud King tripped the lights at 4.574, 322.58 to Dixon’s quicker 4.539 at 321 and change.

Ron Capps followed suit in Funny car by scoring a psychic .003 to Gary Densham’s .087 and was able to hold off the top end charge by half a car. Another door-to-door (so to speak) 310+ mph race with a 4.868 beating a 4.810.

In the FivesIn the Fives at Darlington IHRA
A door slammer in the five-second range! Pro Mod driver Mitch Stott pedaled the Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette to a 5.982-second 231+mph pass at Darlington Dragway on Feb 13th. A 44 Amp Pro Mag provides the fire to the blown Jimmy Rector tuned engine. Congratulations to the entire team!

NHRA Winter Nats
MSD Ignition was on the winning Top Fuel Dragster and Funny Car of Larry Dixon and Tony Pedregon. The mags swept through the alcohol classes also on the winning cars of Tony Bartone in Alcohol Dragster and Doug Gorden in AFC.

ALERT! Important 23° Retard
Module Info

If you purchased a 23° retard module from MSD January '03 to present, there's a chance that the retard value is not 23°. To confirm the retard value, you can check the resistance across the module. It should be between 25,500 ohms. If it is not, send the module to MSD Customer Support Department and we'll get you a new one out pronto.
